Maddi’s Review:
Rory is a Jewish high school student of Sacred Hearts High, an all-girls Catholic school. Rory’s life is simple; she has a good group of friends, lives on a “rich” street, in a huge house (which is not far from the Kardashian’s) and writes a blog called “This Little Light”. When a chastity ball comes to her school, all the girls decide to take part. They all know that their fathers will pay thousands of dollars to buy them nice dresses and that no one will actually know if they keep their virginity pledge. But even at a dance, things can go horribly wrong. Like Rory says “guilty people run, but so do scared people”. Rory and her best friend Fee find themselves on the run from people all over the world who want the million dollar bounty hanging over the girls’ heads. Dealing with abortions, treatment of transgender children, periods, mean girls, materialistic moms, cheating fathers, and a celebrity who isn’t who he seems is just the tip of the iceberg. In Lori Lansens’ This Little Light, Rory Ann Miller shines a light on some darker parts of the world as we know it, whilst trying to survive her own. Spread over 48 hours, this is a beautiful story about loss, hope, acceptance, girl power and survival. Not all the light is lost in the darkness, or at least not yet…
